The Fish Trap in Fields of Mistria is a daily reward machine at The Beach, unlocked by completing the "Repair the Beach Bridge" story quest. Once per day you add a single piece of Fish Bait, the trap closes, and the next day it dispenses a haul of items. The bait tier you use decides which fish and rewards can appear — from seasonal ocean fish to trap-exclusive species, pirate furniture, treasure boxes, essence stones, and artifacts.

How the Fish Trap Works

After repairing the Beach Bridge, interact with the Fish Trap and feed it one piece of Fish Bait — Common, Uncommon, or Rare. The trap closes for the day. Come back the next day and it opens with your haul. That is the whole loop: one bait per day, one collection per day.

When the trap is harvested, the game rolls a number between 0 and 10 to decide how many items you get. Above 6 means four items, above 3 means three items, anything else means two. That works out to a 36% chance of two items, a 28% chance of three, and a 36% chance of four. The roll happens when you harvest, not when you load the bait — which matters for a trick at the end of this page.

What the Trap Drops, In Order

Each slot in the haul follows fixed rules, and the bait only changes what is inside each category — never the category chances:

  • First item: always a seasonal ocean fish
  • Second item: always filler — 2 to 4 pieces of Water Chestnuts or Seaweed (never mixed)
  • Third item, if rolled: 50% a trap-exclusive fish, 50% a piece of the Pirate furniture set
  • Fourth item, if rolled: equal 33% chances of a treasure box, an essence stone, or a trap artifact

Ocean Fish by Season and Bait

The first item is always an ocean fish that is in season. Time of day and weather do not matter here — only the season and your bait tier:

  • Common bait, Spring: Sardine, Shrimp, Squid, Lobster, Sea Bream, Tuna, Pollock, or Red Snapper
  • Common bait, Summer: Sardine, Squid, Tuna, Pollock, Crab, Stingray, Bonito, Char, or Cod
  • Common bait, Fall: Sardine, Squid, Sea Bream, Tuna, Pollock, Red Snapper, Saury, or Mullet
  • Common bait, Winter: Bonito, Cod, or Horse Mackerel
  • Uncommon bait, Spring and Fall: Jellyfish or Swordfish
  • Uncommon bait, Summer and Winter: Puffer Fish or Octopus
  • Rare bait, one per season: Ocean Sunfish (Spring), Grouper (Summer), Shark (Fall), or Oarfish (Winter)

Rare bait is the only way to pull the big single-fish hauls like the Shark and Oarfish from the trap.

Trap-Exclusive Fish

Five fish exist only inside the Fish Trap — you cannot cast for them anywhere. When the third item rolls as a fish, the bait tier picks the pool:

  • Common bait: Blue Crab or Bait Thief
  • Uncommon bait: Sea Urchin or Hake
  • Rare bait: Amberjack

All five belong to the Museum's Fish Trap Set in the Fish Wing, so feed the trap steadily if you are completing the collection.

Pirate Furniture, Boxes, Stones, and Artifacts

When the third item is not a fish, it is furniture from the Pirate set — ten pieces, each an equal pick, and bait has no effect on this table. Look for Anchors, Counterfeit Gold Piles, Nautical Compasses, Ships in a Bottle, and Pirate Flags, each in two color variants.

The fourth item, when it appears, splits three ways. Treasure boxes are fixed by bait: Copper with Common, Silver with Uncommon, Golden with Rare — wooden boxes and Abyssal Chests never appear. Essence stones follow the same ladder: Tiny, Small, and Medium by bait tier, with Large and Giant excluded. Artifacts come from the Fish Trap Artifact Set: Clay Amphora and Sea Glass on Common bait, Porcelain Figure on Uncommon, Worn Pendant and Message in a Bottle on Rare — the game specifically allows the legendary Message in a Bottle from rare bait.

The Save and Reload Trick

Because the trap's contents are only decided at the moment you harvest it, you can save before opening the trap and reload until you get a haul you like. Want that Shark or the Message in a Bottle instead of another Sardine? Save first, open, and reroll. This is the only step of the trap loop you can redo — the bait itself is spent either way.

Fish Trap FAQ

Does better bait give more items? No. Bait tier only changes the potential drops inside each category. The item count is a separate roll with fixed odds.

Can I get a Legendary Fish from the trap? No — as of version 0.15.2, Legendary Fish no longer appear in the Fish Trap. Catch those with the rod instead.

Where is the Fish Trap? At The Beach, and it only becomes usable after the "Repair the Beach Bridge" story quest.

What is the best bait to use? Rare Fish Bait if you want the exclusive Amberjack, Golden boxes, Medium essence stones, or the two rare artifacts. Common bait is fine for cheap ocean fish and filler volume.

What Not to Do

  • Do not skip days — one bait per day means every unfed trap day is a lost haul.
  • Do not expect weather or time of day to matter — only season and bait tier affect the ocean fish table.
  • Do not feed it wooden or Abyssal expectations — those boxes and Large/Giant essence stones never come out of the trap.
  • Do not open before saving if you are chasing a specific rare drop — the harvest roll is rerollable.
