The Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria has five fish in its pond: Forest Perch, Lake Trout, Muskie, Silver Redhorse, and Sunny. All five are available in every season and any weather, which makes the Deep Woods pond the most reliable fishing spot in the game — nothing there ever goes out of season. Two are uncommon catches, and three are common, so it is also a steady low-stress source of Fishing skill experience.
The Complete Deep Woods Fish List
- Forest Perch — common, medium shadow, sells for 50 Tesserae
- Lake Trout — common, large shadow, sells for 45 Tesserae
- Muskie — uncommon, large shadow, sells for 90 Tesserae
- Silver Redhorse — uncommon, medium shadow, sells for 80 Tesserae
- Sunny — common, small shadow, sells for 45 Tesserae
The two worth watching for are the Muskie and Silver Redhorse — both uncommon, both large enough shadows to spot before you cast. If you are completing the Museum's Fish Wing, all fish can be donated there, and the Deep Woods set is one you can finish in a single in-game week because availability never rotates.
Where to Find the Deep Woods Pond
The Deep Woods lies north of The Eastern Road, and it is story-gated: the way in opens during the main story quest "Breaking The Fire Seal", after which a teleport spell learned automatically from the story places you inside. Once there, its pond is one of the three pond fishing locations in the game — the others are west of The Manor in Mistria town and on The Eastern Road. Cast at the dark shadows with your charged tool action and reel in on the "!" indicator, same as everywhere else.
Because reaching the pond costs one teleport and no stamina for casting, it makes a natural daily loop: teleport in, empty the pond's shadows, fish any school that forms, and teleport back out.
Why Fish the Deep Woods: All-Season Availability
Most water types in Fields of Mistria rotate their fish by season, and some — like the legendary fish — additionally demand specific weather. The Deep Woods pond does neither: every one of its five fish is catchable in spring, summer, fall, and winter, in any weather, at any time of day.
That consistency has three practical uses. First, winter fishing: when other spots thin out, the Deep Woods keeps producing. Second, Museum completion: you can knock out all five donations whenever you feel like it. Third, early money — the Muskie at 90 Tesserae and Silver Redhorse at 80 Tesserae are decent catches for an easily reached pond.
Shadow Sizes and Schools
The pond covers all three shadow tiers: Sunny is a small shadow, Forest Perch and Silver Redhorse are medium, and Lake Trout and Muskie are large. A giant shadow never comes out of this pond — if you hooked one, you are somewhere else.
Fish schools occasionally form here too. A school holds 2 to 5 fish and lets you catch them in quick succession until it empties. With the School Crasher perk you can swim into a school to collect half its fish without spending any stamina, which pairs perfectly with an all-season pond that keeps restocking.
Fishing Tips for the Deep Woods
Casting costs no stamina — stamina is only spent on a successful catch — so there is no penalty for taking speculative casts at every shadow. Bring your best rod: self-crafted rods can roll bonus stats, and higher tiers like the Iron Fishing Rod cast in a straight line rather than an area, making it easier to drop a bobber right on the shadow you want.
Fish Bait works here as anywhere: Common, Uncommon, and Rare bait attract fish of the matching rarity, so Rare bait is the way to farm the uncommon Muskie and Silver Redhorse specifically. Bait also works in The Mines as of version 0.15.2, but the Deep Woods pond needs no bait at all for its commons.
Deep Woods Fish FAQ
What is the rarest Deep Woods fish? There is no rare-tier fish here — Muskie and Silver Redhorse are the top catches at uncommon rarity. The rarest thing in the pond is simply whichever of those two you have not caught yet.
Do Deep Woods fish change with the season? No. All five are available in every season and any weather, which is unusual in Mistria and makes this the most consistent fishing spot.
Can I dive in the Deep Woods pond? Diving happens at dark dive holes in the water. Where a dive hole appears, diving is free — it never costs stamina — and with the Sunken Secrets perk, holes can also yield artifacts.
Are Deep Woods fish good gifts? They are not on any character's loved list. Their value is the Museum donation, the sell price, and cooking recipes that call for fish.
What Not to Do
- Do not wait for a "right season" to fish here — there is not one, so fish it whenever convenient.
- Do not expect a giant shadow — the pond tops out at large shadows, and a bigger one means you have moved to another water type.
- Do not sell fish you have not donated yet — the Fish Wing set from this pond is easy to complete and one-time per species.
- Do not reel in before the "!" — the nibbles before the bite are there to bait you into an early reel and a lost fish.
