Balor's loved gifts in Fields of Mistria are Apple Honey Curry, Chili Coconut Curry, Deluxe Curry, Perfect Ruby, Perfect Sapphire, Perfect Emerald, Perfect Diamond, Perfect Pink Diamond, Alda Gem Bracelet, and the Family Crest Pendant. He also likes 20 other items, from regular gems and gold to a handful of flowers. As a traveling merchant he is picky, but his taste is easy to shop for: if it sparkles or tastes of curry, he wants it. He hates exactly one item — the Ant.
Quick Answer: Balor's Best Gifts
The cheapest reliable loved gift is a curry. Deluxe Curry can be bought outright at The Inn for 600 Tesserae, and Apple Honey Curry only needs farm-grown apples, honey, and a few crops to cook. If you would rather mine, any Perfect-quality gem is a guaranteed loved gift — Perfect gems are a separate, rarer tier above the ordinary gems he merely likes. His two artifact gifts come from archaeology, so they take the longest to dig up.
Balor Loved Gifts (Full List)
Every item below is a confirmed loved gift for Balor. The list splits into curries, perfect gems, and Aldarian keepsakes.
- Apple Honey Curry — cook with Apple, Honey, Curry Powder, Sweet Potato, Onion, and Rice
- Chili Coconut Curry — cook it yourself, buy at The Inn (after the upgrade) for 1,600 Tesserae, or get one by feeding mimics in The Lava Caves with the Dungeon Delicacies skill
- Deluxe Curry — cook it, or buy at The Inn for 600 Tesserae; a Golden Treasure Box may also hold one
- Alda Gem Bracelet — dig it up through archaeology
- Family Crest Pendant — dig it up through archaeology; Balor says Aldarian families hung these on relatives leaving home
- Perfect Ruby — mine Ruby nodes for the perfect-quality variant
- Perfect Sapphire — mine Sapphire nodes
- Perfect Emerald — mine Emerald nodes in The Deep Earth
- Perfect Diamond — mine Diamond nodes in The Lava Caves
- Perfect Pink Diamond — mine Pink Diamond nodes
Balor's gifting dialogue confirms the theme. On a Perfect Diamond he says "a rarity among rarities!", and on any loved gem he calls it "one-of-a-kind... It's going right into my private collection." On loved curries he cannot help himself: "I can't resist a curry... The flavor! The depth! The heat!"
Balor Liked Gifts
When you have no loved gift on hand, these 20 items all count as liked. They fall into four shopping groups:
- Regular gems and gold: Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pink Diamond, Gold Ore, Perfect Gold Ore, and Gold Ingot. His line on gems: "I can't resist anything with a little sparkle."
- Flowers: Rose, Crystal Rose, Jasmine, Fog Orchid, Frost Lily, and Snowdrop Anemone. He hangs Jasmine in his wagon to freshen it up.
- Curry-adjacent dishes and sweets: Cauliflower Curry, Chickpea Curry, Golden Cheesecake, and Golden Cookies
- Curiosities: the Sapphire Betta fish and the Rusted Treasure Chest, which he accepts while wondering whether it is watertight
Note the quality difference: an ordinary Ruby is only liked, while a Perfect Ruby is loved. If you are mining anyway, it is worth holding out for the perfect variant before spending it.
Where to Buy or Farm Balor Gifts
The Inn is the one-stop shop: Deluxe Curry for 600 Tesserae, and Chili Coconut Curry for 1,600 once the Inn is upgraded. Cooking covers both curries from farmed ingredients — apples, honey, and vegetables you can grow yourself, which the Living Off The Land skill makes cheaper. The archaeology route takes longer but pays twice: the Alda Gem Bracelet and Family Crest Pendant are loved gifts found by digging, not sold in any shop.
For the gem route, head to the mines with your pickaxe. Perfect Diamond comes from Diamond nodes in The Lava Caves, Perfect Emerald from Emerald nodes in The Deep Earth, and the other perfect gems from their matching ore nodes at the right depth. A Golden Treasure Box can also contain a Deluxe Curry as a bonus.
Balor's Birthday and Gifting Rules
Balor's birthday is Summer 10. Mark the calendar, because a birthday gift earns a special reaction: "A birthday gift? You shouldn't have! I'll still take it though. Thank you!" You can give each character one gift per day, so a loved item on the birthday itself plus a liked gift the day before is an easy way to squeeze out extra friendship points that week.
Balor Gift FAQ
Do gems or curries give more hearts with Balor? Both groups are loved, and the exact heart-point difference between loved and liked gifts is not confirmed yet. Pick whichever is cheapest for you that day — Inn curry or a freshly mined perfect gem both work.
Does Balor like insects and bugs? No. He dislikes the full universal dislikes list, which is mostly bugs and insects — with one infamous exception below.
What should you never give Balor? The Ant. It is the single item he hates: "You wouldn't believe how quickly they can ruin a merchant's stock. Are you trying to disrupt my business?"
Where does Balor's Wagon fit in? His wagon is a shop, not a gift — but it stocks liked and loved dishes for other villagers, so it is worth checking whenever it is in town.
Gifts to Avoid
Balor dislikes all universal dislikes — a long list of bugs, insects, and raw materials like Fiber, Hay, Sap, and Acorn — with one twist: the Ant is lifted out of mere dislike and into his hated slot. Pet treats (Cat Treat, Dog Treat, and the heart-shaped animal treats) are also disliked, so empty your bug bag and pet pouch before talking to him. Anything not on his loved, liked, disliked, or hated lists is treated as neutral and only earns a plain "Oh! Well, thanks."
About Balor
Balor is Mistria's traveling merchant, and his wagon is one of the main shops in town for dishes and rare goods. His dialogue leans into the trade: he describes curry as "the perfect expression of my trade — the fine taste of different spices, traveling and mingling together," and admits he is "not used to getting something so fine without strings attached." Give him a gem or a curry and you are speaking his language; hand him an Ant and you have threatened his stockroom.
